Why do we write a letter to the lord?

The purpose of writing a letter to the Lord is to set our eyes on the Lord for this next year. The way we accomplish this through writing this letter to Him is by stopping, reflecting on the past, and looking forward toward the future. The discipline of slowing down and writing these things out brings so much fruit to the life of a believer.

One, when you slow down to write out why you are thankful for God, you are setting some groundbreaking framework for your heart. The fact that "gratitude" is mentioned 157 times in the Bible should show us how much our God values a grateful heart.

Two, when we write out our prayers we give ourselves a place to come back to and reflect further on God's goodness. This does an incredible work in building our faith. We get the privilege of seeing God answer our prayers. If there is anything that is so true about humanity, it is that we are good at forgetting. So, we don't want to forget about our prayers because we will miss when God

answers them.

When you write your letter, and give it to us, it will remain sealed. We will mail it back to you at the end of the year. Our hope is that when you open up this letter at the end of 2024 you will celebrate and sing praises to the Lord for how He worked in your life!

If you need some help with what to write in your letter we’ve jotted down

some bullet points below as a guide:

  • Say thank you for what He has already done in you, through you, and around you.
  • Ask Him for help in the places of your life that you are struggling and are in need of breakthrough. Give Him your burdens.
  • Ask Him to reveal His truths in your life.
  • Make some commitments to Him for the year.

The purpose of this letter is to give Him what is on your heart, so let it be personal and meaningful.

After you have written your letter, put it in the envelope and seal it. Then address the envelope to yourself (Click here for an example) and give it to an usher. We look forward to celebrating with you at the end of the year. We can't wait to hear about how the Lord worked in your life!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
